This beautiful star-shaped mushroom may not be so pretty in the eyes of a truffle grower.

What do you think of this mushroom?

Its scientific name is Astraeus hygrometricus, although it is usually known as ground star. If you are truffle growers and you see it in your plantations, it is usually recommended to remove it in plastic bags so that it does not spread its spores. It is a fungus that burns like our truffle and can confuse us. An analysis of the roots would tell us if it is coexisting with our truffle or if Astraeus hygrometricus has displaced Tuber melanosporum completely.

P.S: Yes, a mosquito was doing its thing on my hand while we took the photo.
